Big Thunder, the events division of C. Walton Ltd, operates from Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, the largest privately owned vehicle test track facility; centrally located close to the M1 / M6 in Leicestershire.

    Big Thunder Fact File

    Operating under the code name of ‘Big Thunder’, Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground was used by the United Stated Air force as a strategic heavy bomber base in the 1950s and 60s.

   With a wonderful 2 mile runway at the heart of our 670 acre site, Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground now boasts a 4.2 mile circuit, with an amazing 60 metre wide, 2 mile straight; one of the longest in the country. If required, this amazing circuit can be split into separate ‘Sprint’ and ‘Indy’ circuits; both 2 miles long.

If that’s not enough, Big Thunder has many additional hard standing areas and an impressive 4x4 course second to none – all designed to give the ultimate driving experience.

As a former airfield, Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground wouldn’t be complete without ties with its aviation history. And in true tradition, we provide home for an incredible range of aircraft, including one of the very last Vulcan bombers (XH558); currently undergoing a major refurbishment programme.

Not only does Big Thunder represent the epitome of corporate motor sport entertainment but it operates as part of a multi faceted organisation; C. Walton Ltd. which has developed a highly successful Vehicle Storage and Automotive Refurbishment business, culminating in a multimillion pound investment in a state of the art 50,000 sq ft refurbishment centre.
